The Falls Music & Arts Festival History

1999

The hype which preceded the "turn of the millennium" meant that a plethora of party options were on offer for NYE 99. Despite this unprecedented competition (particularly in the city), The Falls Festival 1999 sold out over a month in advance with a line-up comprising US geek-rockers Violent Femmes, Canadians The Tea Party, US DJ Freddy Fresh and locals Regurgitator, Frenzal Rhomb, You Am I, Something For Kate, Superheist, 28 Days, Alex Lloyd, Area 7, Pollyanna, The Fauves and many others. On 29 December 1999, with the festival site shrouded in thick fog and having been lashed with heavy rains for nearly a week, the organisers were forced to completely relocate the festival to the site in Torquay where the Offshore Festival is conducted. Miraculously, this was achieved in the required 24 hours and the festival proceeded as planned. Over 13,000 revellers rolled into the new venue, happy to be away from the fog and slush of the Lorne venue and well and truly ready for partying! The stand out performance for the event was, without question, The Tea Party. who proceeded to captivate the relocated revellers with tracks such as "Transmission", "Fire in the Head", "Sister Awake", "Walk With Me", "Save Me", "Temptation", "Touch" and "Heaven Coming Down".
