The Falls Music & Arts Festival History
2009
For the year of the seventeenth Falls in Lorne and the seventh edition in Marion Bay, 2009’s offering was one of grandiose proportions that brewed for us the perfect gumbo of musical perfection, artistic interludes and summer escapism. Blessed with a generous bounty from Mother Nature and her delivery of superb and sunny filled days (and a dash of very welcome and cooling rain!), coupled with some of the most thrilling performances from all four corners of the globe, 2009 made for a wondrous chapter to add to The Falls history books.
As Moby stated numerous times, "thank you thank you thank you”! Speaking of Moby, he really did impress and showed us that he is a seasoned pro who knew what to deliver with an amazing sound, show and energy; The Temper Trap! Wow. What more can we say? It was incredible and EVERYONE had Goosebumps; Patrick Watson mesmerised us all into a trance and played in the crowd to adoring onlookers; Rodrigo y Gabriela were sheer captivating brilliance! If your hairs weren’t standing on end, you weren’t listening; Art Vs Science had the entire main arena bouncing....they bounced, the crowd bounced, the sea of inflatable animals bounced... penguins, horses, crocodiles....it was really, really good! Arj Barker was the pied piper of the festival and quickly filled the 8000 capacity Grand Theatre in Lorne and the Field Stage in Marion Bay. The laughter could be heard from miles away! And then there was King Khan & The Shrines who were shambolic-fun; DJ Yoda and his clever Aussie-homage, a pastiche of Oz-delights; Grizzly Bear were stunning...just stunning; Yeah Yeah Yeahs showed us that Karen O is surely a musical force to be reckoned with; Midnight Juggernauts gave us an incredible show (and lightshow in Tassie, just as Mother Nature was showing her fork-lightening prowess); Emiliana Torrini won over a thousand hearts (and was even proposed too with an oversized giant ring from adoring fans in the Tassie crowd); and then there were more incredible performances from Sarah Blasko (how blissful her voice is); Lyrics Born (and his rump-shakin’ tunes); Seasick Steve (and his hoe-down ditties...another strong favourite), the list goes on and on and on!
